Billings Clinic LaboratoryMethodology
Consultations may include: surgical pathology, hematopathology, and dermatopathology.Note: Second opinions regarding diagnoses will be rendered by staff pathologists in consultation with colleagues who have expertise in the appropriate subspecialty areas.
Specimen Requirements
Contact Billings Clinic Laboratory at 866-232-2522 prior to specimen collection for specific instructions.
Acceptable Specimens:
Cytologic preparations, fixed tissue, fresh tissue, or paraffin blocks
Tissue removed from a patient may be processed in a variety of ways depending on the information sought by tissue examination and type of tissue available. Since there is no single tissue-handling method that will allow all diagnostic studies to be performed, it is absolutely essential to decide what type of studies may be necessary before tissue is fixed, processed, or allowed to perish.
Note: 1. Label specimen container with patient’s name or a Billings Clinic pathology requisition number.
2. Please complete a “Reference Pathology/Non-Gynecologic Cytology Request Form” in “Request Forms” in “Special Instructions” including the referring clinician’s telephone number and forward it with the specimen. Information contained on request form is the only indication that the pathologist and Histology Department have concerning the nature of the specimen and information being sought by submitting clinician/surgeon.
3. Unlabeled or inadequately labeled specimen is not acceptable.
