Useful For
- The FilmArray Respiratory Panel tests for a comprehensive group of 22 respiratory viruses and bacteria using multiplex PCR technology for detection and identification of specific viral and bacterial nucleic acids from individuals exhibiting acute signs and symptoms of a respiratory infection.
- The FilmArray Respiratory Panel is intended as an aid in the diagnosis of high risk patients (adult and pediatric oncologic, critically ill) with respiratory symptoms, facilitating adequate infection control practices and targeted antibiotic use.

Specimen Requirements
- Nasopharyngeal swabs (NPS)
- NPS specimens should be collected according to standard technique and immediately placed in universal transport media (UTM) or viral transport media (M4, M6).

Specimen collection kits are available in the Laboratory - Call the Laboratory, ext 4060.
Stability/Storage
Specimens in UTM should be processed and tested as soon as possible. If storage is required, specimens in UTM can be held at room temperature (18–30 ºC) for up to 4 hours, at refrigerator temperature (2-8 °C) for up to 3 days, or at freezer temperature (<- 15 °C) for up to 30 days.
Reject Due To
Specimens will not be accepted if not sent in viral transport media (UTM, M4, M6)
