Specimen Requirements

2 g of stool collected 3 to 5 days AFTER ONSET OF SYMPTOMS in a clean, dry, leakproof container with a tightly-fitting lid.
Send specimen refrigerated.
Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

Reference Values

Negative (reported as positive or negative)

The virus is eliminated from the infected individual within a few days following acute infection.
A prolonged carrier state has been recognized with rotavirus infection.
