Useful For

Susceptibility testing is done on Candida species in cultures from sterile sites.

Methodology

Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC)/Antifungal Fluconazole, Caspofungin and Voriconazole

Specimen Requirements

  • Send infecting yeast. Yeast should be in pure culture, actively growing, placed in a proper mailing container, and labeled as an etiologic agent.
  • Appropriate antimicrobials will be tested.
  • Organism suspected and specimen source are required on request form for processing.

Reject Due To

  • Agar plate is not acceptable.

Reference Values

Susceptible:  ≤8 µg/mL

Intermediate:  16-32 µg/mL

Resistant:  ≥64 µg/mL
