Methodology

Direct Immunofluorescence Staining of Cryostat-Prepared Skin Biopsy Sections for IgG, IgM, IgA, and C3

Specimen Requirements

Contact Billings Clinic Laboratory at 866-232-2522 prior to specimen collection for specific instructions.

 

Fresh tissue or tissue in Zeus fixative supplied. Punch biopsy (4 mm) of uninvolved or involved skin. This assay cannot be performed on specimens fixed in formalin.
Note:  1. Please complete a “Reference Pathology/Non-Gynecologic Cytology Request Form” in “Request Forms” in “Special Instructions” and forward it with the specimen.
2. Biopsy site, whether biopsy was obtained from sun-exposed vs. unexposed skin, whether it is from perilesional, involved, or uninvolved skin, date of collection, and referring clinician’s telephone number are required on request form for processing.

Report includes description and interpretation of staining patterns.
