This is a qualitative test to detect human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) for the early detection of pregnancy.

Specimen Requirements

  • Specimen must arrive within 48 hours of collection if an aliquot is not frozen at -20oC.
  • 1 mL from an early-morning, random urine collection in a sterile urine container.
  • Send specimen refrigerated.
  • Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
  • First-morning specimens generally contain highest concentrations of hCG, and are recommended for early detection of pregnancy. However, any urine is suitable for testing.
