Identification of abnormal physiologic states causing excess or suppressed excretion of calcium, such as hyperparathyroidism, vitamin D abnormality, diseases that destroy bone, prostate cancer, and drug treatment, such as thiazide therapy

Specimen Requirements
- Urine specimens should be collected in a bottle containing 10 mL of 6 M HCl per 24-hour specimen to prevent calcium salt precipitation.
- Refrigerate specimen during collection, and send specimen refrigerated.
- 24-Hour volume is required on request form for processing.
- 10 mL from a 24-hour urine collection in a urine container.
- Follow instructions in “Urine Collection” under "Resources"
