Methodology

Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA)/Indirect Immunofluorescent Assay (IFA)

Specimen Requirements

Both serum and EDTA whole blood are required for this test.

 

Serum

  • Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s) or a serum gel tube(s).
  • Spin down and send 2 mL of serum at ambient or refrigerated temperature.
  • Indicate serum on request form.
  • Label specimen appropriately (serum).

EDTA Whole Blood

  • Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s).
  • Send 2 mL of EDTA whole blood.
  • Invert several times to mix blood.
  • Forward unprocessed whole blood promptly at ambient or refrigerated temperature.
  • Indicate EDTA whole blood on request form.
  • Label specimen appropriately (EDTA whole blood).
