Methodology
Nucleic Acid Amplification (GEN-PROBE)
Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Urine (Males and Females)
Container/Tube: Sterile cup or APTIMA Urine Specimen Transport Tube.
Specimen Volume: 15-20 mL sterile cup or 2 mL APTIMA Urine Specimen Transport Tube
Collection Instructions:
- Patient should not have urinated for at least 1 hour prior to specimen collection.
- Patient should collect first portion of random voided urine (first part of stream) into a sterile, plastic, preservative-free container.
- Store and transport urine container at 2 to 30° C if specimen will be received within 24 hours of collection.
- If specimen will be received greater than 24 hours after collection, transfer 2 mL of urine into the urine specimen transport tube using the disposable pipette provided. The correct volume of urine has been added when the fluid level is between the black fill lines on the urine transport tube. Store urine at 2 to 30° C and test within 30 days of collection.
Reject Due To
- Specimen will be rejected if the fluid level is not between the black fill lines on the urine transport tube.
- Grey top urine preservative tube is NOT acceptable.
Reference Values
- Chlamydia trachomatis RNA and Neisseria gonorrhoeae RNA not detected and presumed negative for Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae by RNA amplification
- All positive results will be phoned to the City/County Health Nurse as per Montana state law.
