Methodology

Billings Clinic: Indirect Sandwich Immunoassay

 

Mayo: Real-Time Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR)

(PCR is utilized pursuant to a license agreement with Roche Molecular Systems, Inc.)

Specimen Requirements

Serum should be physically separated from cells as soon as possible with a maximum limit of two hours from the time of collection.

 

  • Draw blood in a serum gel tube(s).
  • Spin down and send 2-3 mL of serum frozen in plastic vial.
  • Draw date is required on request form for processing.

Reject Due To

  • Heat-inactivated specimen
  • Grossly hemolyzed specimen

Reference Values

  • Nonreactive (reported as reactive or nonreactive)
  • Automatic call-back: only repeatedly reactive specimens are reported as reactive
  • Confirmations will be sent to Mayo Medical Laboratories upon request.
