Methodology
Conventional Culture with Fluorescent Antibody Procedure Utilized for Identification of Positive Cultures
Specimen Requirements
- Bronchial washing specimen should be collected by a trained person in the Pulmonary Department
- Submit ≥10 mL of bronchial washings in a screw-capped, sterile container.
- Avoid contaminating bronchoscope with tap water.
- Label container with patient’s name (first and last), date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.
- Maintain sterility and forward promptly. If there is a delay in transport of ≥2 hours, send specimen refrigerated.
- Specimen source is required on request form for processing.
