Methodology

Conventional Culture with Fluorescent Antibody Procedure Utilized for Identification of Positive Cultures

Specimen Requirements

  1. Aseptically collect 1 g of tissue and place in a screw-capped, sterile vial containing 5 mL of sterile saline or other suitable culture media.
  2. Swab is not acceptable.
  3. Always submit as much tissue as possible.
  4. Label vial with patient’s name (first and last), date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.
  5. Maintain sterility and forward promptly at ambient temperature only.
  6. Specimen cannot be refrigerated or frozen.
  7. Do not allow tissue to dry out.
  8. Biopsy site/specimen source is required on request form for processing.
