Useful For
- A titer of ≥1:32 is suggestive of viral pneumonia.
- High titers are also seen in African trypanosomiasis, leishmaniasis, hemolytic anemia, mumps orchitis, and Blackwater fever.
Methodology
Red Cell Agglutination at 4° C
Specimen Requirements
- Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s).
- Serum gel tube is not acceptable.
- Incubate tube for 60 minutes at 37° C prior to centrifugation.
- Do not refrigerate prior to separation of serum from red cells.
- Spin down and send 2 mL of serum.

- Specimens drawn in red gel tube
