Useful For
- This is a qualitative test to detect human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) for the early detection of pregnancy.
- Elevated concentrations may occur in patients with choriocarcinoma, hydatiform mole, testicular tumors, prostatic cancer, breast cancer, and lung cancer.
- High concentrations of heterophile antibodies may rarely cause discordant results.

Specimen Requirements
- Specimen must arrive within 48 hours of draw.
- Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube or a serum gel tube.
- Spin down and send 1 mL of serum refrigerated.
