Methodology

Agglutination

Includes tularemia antibody due to cross reactivity.

Specimen Requirements

  • Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s). 
  • Spin down and send 1 mL of serum refrigerated.
  • Both acute and convalescent specimens are recommended.
  • Acute specimen should be drawn during onset of illness and convalescent should be drawn 2 weeks post acute.
  • Label specimen appropriately (acute or convalescent).

Reference Values

  • Negative to a titer of 1:40 which may be noted in normal population
  • A 4-fold or greater rise in paired serum titer indicates recent infection.
