Billings Clinic Laboratory: Immunology
Useful For
-
The presence of anti-Ro52 autoantibodies, in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory tests, is an aid in the diagnosis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Sjögren’s Syndrome, Systemic Sclerosis, and Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathies
-
Ro52 autoantibodies are frequently present in the sera of patients with SS (40-70%) or SLE (20-40%).
-
Anti-Ro antibodies have special diagnostic significance in congenital heart block. Isolated congenital complete atrioventricular block (CAVB) shows a close association with maternal anti-Ro and anti-SS-B (La) antibodies; the highest relative risks of CAVB are seen in offspring of mothers with antibodies against 52-kDa Ro and 48-kDa SS-B proteins.
