Specimen Requirements

  • 20 mL from a 24-hour urine collection in a urine container.
  • Refrigerate specimen during collection, and send specimen refrigerated.
  • 24-Hour volume is required on request form for processing.
  • Follow instructions in “Urine Collection” under “Resources".

Reference Values

0 - 30 mg/24 hr

 

Urine microalbumin excretion rates in excess of 30 mg/24 hours are indicative of diabetic nephropathy when confirmed in at least 2 urine specimens evaluated within a 6-12 week interval.
