Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

Serum (Preferred)

• Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s).
• Serum gel tube is not acceptable.
• Spin down and separate serum from cells within 2 hours of collection
• Send 1 mL of serum refrigerated.
• Indicate serum on request form.
• Label specimen appropriately (serum).

Plasma

• Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s).
• Spin down and separate serum from cells within 2 hours of collection
• Send 1 mL of EDTA plasma refrigerated.
• Indicate plasma on request form.
• Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
