Useful For

Tests for autoantibodies directed against beta cell protein (antigen) but is not specific to beta cells
One of the most commonly detected autoantibodies in newly diagnosed type 1 diabetics (about 70-80%)

Specimen Requirements

Submit 2 mL of serum from a plain red top or red gel.
Allow blood to clot prior to centrifugation.
Transfer serum to a plastic pour off tube.
Send by overnight mail, refrigerated.
All tests must be accompanied by a Barbara Davis Childhood Diabetes Test Request (See Resources)

Normal: < 20

Elevated: > 25
