Specimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Specimen types are listed in order of preference.
Plasma
- Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s).
- Spin down and send 4 mL of EDTA plasma frozen in plastic vial.
- Indicate plasma on request form.
- Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
Serum
- Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s).
- Spin down and send 4 mL of serum frozen in plastic vial.
- Indicate serum on request form.
- Label specimen appropriately (serum).
Whole Blood
- Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s).
- Place 4 mL of EDTA whole blood in plastic vial and freeze immediately.
- Send specimen frozen.
- Indicate whole blood on request form.
- Label specimen appropriately (whole blood).
Urine
- 4 mL from a random urine collection in a urine container.
- Send specimen frozen in plastic container.
- Indicate urine on request form.
- Label specimen appropriately (urine).
Reference Values
Reference values are included with patient’s report.
