Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:


Specimen types are listed in order of preference.

 

Plasma

  • Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s).
  • Spin down and send 4 mL of EDTA plasma frozen in plastic vial.
  • Indicate plasma on request form.
  • Label specimen appropriately (plasma).

Serum

  • Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s).
  • Spin down and send 4 mL of serum frozen in plastic vial.
  • Indicate serum on request form.
  • Label specimen appropriately (serum).

Whole Blood

  • Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s). 
  • Place 4 mL of EDTA whole blood in plastic vial and freeze immediately.
  • Send specimen frozen.
  • Indicate whole blood on request form.
  • Label specimen appropriately (whole blood).

Urine

  • 4 mL from a random urine collection in a urine container.
  • Send specimen frozen in plastic container.
  • Indicate urine on request form.
  • Label specimen appropriately (urine).

Reference Values

Reference values are included with patient’s report.
