In patients receiving therapy with high doses of biotin (> 5 mg/day), no sample should be taken until at least 8 hours after the last biotin administration.

Specimen Requirements

Serum should be physically separated from cells as soon as possible with a maximum limit of two hours from the time of collection.

 

  • Draw blood in a serum gel tube(s).
  • Spin down and send 2 mL of serum frozen in plastic vial.
  • Draw date is required on request form for processing.
