Specimen Requirements

  • Total ejaculate in a sterile container supplied following at least 2 days and no more than 7 days of abstinence.
  • During initial evaluation of a potentially infertile patient, at least 2 evaluations should be performed (collected between 7 and 21 days apart).
  • Forward promptly.
  • Do not refrigerate.

Profile/Testing Information

  • If no spermatozoa is noted, a fructose test is performed. A positive result indicates the fluid is semen.
  • If > 5 round cells are present, a LeucoScreen™ is performed
  • If > 30% agglutination is present, then a Sperm Antibody (MarScreen®) is performed
  • If < 40% motility, then a Sperm Antibody (MarScreen®) and Vitality Screen are performed
